Remember when I posted about wanting a vanity for the bedroom? Well, that is because I'm getting more into makeup now. I had a ton of it in high school but all that tapered off in college when I would just roll out of bed and go to class. Then, after I moved in with Jimmy, getting ready fast became the norm and I put on minimal makeup.
I received a gift card from Macy's for Christmas and I didn't know how to use it, so I decided to buy some expensive makeup since I'm more on a drugstore kind of budget nowadays. The last time I bought good makeup was right before my wedding, so it was a nice indulgence.
Here's what I got so far and I still have a little left on my card to order some makeup online (they didn't have the brand I wanted in store)...
Nothing too exciting, but I like them. It is hard for me to find a brown eye shadow that doesn't make my eyes look bruised since I'm so pale. And I love the mascara. I've been trying to find a good drugstore mascara and have even been disappointed with expensive brands (the one I got for the wedding was Givenchy!) They all seemed to get flaky and clumpy. The Clinique mascara goes on thin and dark and I don't even have to comb through my eyelashes afterwards. I took a nap with it on and it still didn't smear or flake. Love it.
I've also been buying a lot of nail polish. I was thinking of splurging on a Chanel nail polish with my gift card, but at $25 a pop, it still seemed way too much to spend, even though it wasn't my own money. So, I looked to see if there was anything similar out there and came across this page. Definitely more my speed. So, I tracked down the dupes at various locations.
WnW Morbid is a dupe for Chanel Black Pearl and the Rimmel Steel Grey is a dupe for Chanel Particuliere. I got the WnW Nocturnal just for fun since it was only $1.89 at Walmart. The Rimmel was easy to find at CVS and I've seen it everywhere else too.
My holy grail nail polish to find was Revlon Perplex. It is supposed to be an exact duplicate of Chanel's Paradoxal, a smoky gray-violet color, which is the one I was most tempted to buy. I looked everywhere for the Revlon though and couldn't find it. Finally, I read somewhere that people had found it at Big Lots of all places. So, I headed there today and what do you know? I found three bottles there for a buck each! So, I bought two, just in case it turned out to be the best polish ever, and called it a day.
I can't paint my fingernails right now because they would just get ruined during my pottery class. I guess I'll paint my toenails and walk around barefoot a lot so I can admire the colors (although actually seeing my feet is getting to be an issue...). It's actually been kinda fun tracking down these nail polishes and a bit of a challenge. Also, I've bought 5 bottles for less than $10, whereas one bottle of Chanel costs $25. Nice. Now I just need to figure out what to spend the rest of my gift card on. I'm thinking a blush and a lippie because those are my favorite makeup products to buy.
