I have been dying for an art and craft room of my own lately. I have so little free time now that when I do have a few minutes here and there, I would like to do something creative. All of my art stuff is currently crammed into a corner of our bedroom so it always takes a while to set up my supplies and clean up afterwards. It would be nice to be able to leave out a project and be able to pick it up any time I had a spare moment. Anyway, this is my longwinded way of writing that I've been daydreaming about a room of my own and I thought I would share a few pictures of my dream space.
Wall Color
I can't decide whether I would want the room to be kind of dark and moody, which inspires me (I'm so emo) or bright white, so that all the colors will be true.
I love this. It looks like a chalkboard wall that has been used and erased many times. It would be handy for jotting down ideas and reminders too.
This studio is incredible too. Black and white, when done right, doesn't read as stark, but as rich and layered. Those paintbrushes are awesome. I'm thinking about doing it to my own cheapies so that I can admire them in their glass container.
Storage
For storing all my supplies, I would like to use vintage and industrial containers. I have a lot of metal and white containers from IKEA, but I want to add a little more character with the items below.
These cigar boxes are such a cool idea. I have so many random art and craft supplies. If I had a bunch of these, I could categorize all those little bits and bobs and that appeals to my organized collector side.
Vintage suitcases could store my larger supplies and projects in progress. I'm currently collecting lots of cardboard for a couple projects and it would be nice to be able to pack it all away instead of stashing it wherever I can find space.
Via (also has an awesome tutorial on how to age new crates)
I could use these crates for storing and displaying my photography props.
Ah, so handy. I could use one of these to organize all those tiny supplies, like stamps, embellishments, etc. While I like the ombre effect this woman was going for, bright colors aren't really me, so I would probably label the drawers with brown kraft paper.
The ever useful pegboard, which I would use to store my frequently used tools and supplies. I would probably also install a shelf above it and screw some baby food jars with more supplies underneath. I have been hanging on to every baby food jar for just this reason. By the way, if anyone needs any, I suppose I could spare a few...
Furniture
I want to get some of these garage metal shelves for most of my supplies. I like the industrial look (I won't be spraypainting like the above example) and they are heavy duty so I can really pack 'em full.
This is my desk that is currently living in the garage. It's nice and big for spreading out with projects and I like the glass top for displaying inspiration pictures.
Of course, I can't forget to make room for my little guy to get his craftin' on. He'll have his own shelf of supplies too.
That's really all I have planned for furniture. There are plenty of other pieces I would like to have, like a table just for photographing items for my Etsy shop, another desk for a computer for the business end of things, maybe another project table like this awesome Pottery Barn one. If I ever do get a craft room, it will probably be small and a shared space, so I don't want to get too grandiose.
Anyway, I'm off to bed to dream of a glorious art and crafting space and buttloads of time to create things.
Oh, that Pottery Barn project table is the one I have been jonesing for. It's way too expensive though. Think we can put one together with Ikea bookcases and tabletop?
